Visit Colmar: the essentials

Nestled in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards, Colmar is a village that looks like a postcard.

Its romantic canals, half-timbered houses and preserved cultural heritage make it an unmissable place.

Whether it's for a getaway, a weekend or a longer stay, it's the perfect destination all year round.

Discover the charm of Old Colmar

Little Venice

Start your visit by following the cobbled streets of Old Colmar. Once you arrive in the Little Venice district, you will be charmed by this picturesque place.

Behind the Koïffhus, continue towards the quai de la poissonnerie to the Turenne and Saint-Pierre bridges.

With its canals lined with flower-filled half-timbered houses, Little Venice attracts photographers from all over the world. You will even have the opportunity to take a ride in a flat-bottomed boat.

Not far away, the Tanners' district is distinguished by its large white houses, witnesses to the artisanal activity of yesteryear. While strolling, don't miss the majestic Saint-Martin Collegiate Church.

Emblematic houses

Colmar is full of historic residences that tell the story of the city's evolution. The Adolf house, the oldest in Colmar, and the Pfister house, with its murals and sculpted oriel window, are real treasures.

A visit is also a must to the Maison des Têtes, a German Renaissance building decorated with a hundred masks that give it a unique singularity.

A city of art and culture

It is impossible to miss the Unterlinden museum, housed in a former Dominican convent.

If you are an art lover, you can admire the famous Isenheim Altarpiece, a Renaissance masterpiece, as well as an important collection by Martin Schongauer.

A little further on, discover the museum dedicated to Uncle Hansi, whose real name was Jean-Jacques Waltz, a caricaturist and illustrator popularized by Hergé.

Through a hundred drawings, you can learn more about the history of Colmar and Alsace. On the ground floor is a small shop where you can taste many Alsatian specialties.

Succumb to the gastronomy and wines of Alsace

The culinary richness of Colmar is like the region: generous and refined. Reserve a table in one of the traditional winstubs to taste specialties such as sauerkraut or baeckeoffe, accompanied by Alsace wines.

Lovers of sweets will be won over by the kougelhopfs and other gingerbreads.

Colmar also remains the capital of Alsace wines. Many wine estates offer tastings and cellar tours, such as the Wolfberger or Martin Jund estates.
